I have a 1998 Discovery i'm kinda a rookie to the land rover game but here goes,

i'm wanting to lift my rover 2" i've seen suspension kits , spacers, and everything

the old man emu suspensions are kind of high but i hear they are worth it

i want to go the springs and shocks route probably
unless the spacers would do a good job
i'm not into heavy articulation even though it would be nice if it came without an expensive price tag
i just need some clearance and i need to make room for my tires
can someone help direct me in a path to take with this
let me know what all i'd need to buy to make the springs and shocks work
and could i just get spacers and nothing else just for some ground clearance and still use factory springs and shocks
anything would be helpful , and good places to get them would be helpful also
thanks in advance

You sound like you need a CB lift.

Buy some OME 762s or RTE 2in springs. Pop your old rears in front and put the 762s/RTE 2in in back.

Your done.

If you decide you don't like it then you can go from there but it will get you going and I think that you will be happy with it and feel no need to go further, at least for a while :)

Ron

expeditionexchange.com sells OME, rovertym.com for RTE

get OME, it's worth it. In retrospect, I should have done OME HDs all around now that I want to get an ARB and winch. Take that into consideration for future mods.

And yes, EE can give you a competitive price. Plus you'd be supporting Discoweb and their efforts in providing us with a (free) rover owner's haven.

Oh, and the best mod of all, Discoweb/EE stickers!

$400 for a set of 4 OME HD springs and shocks combined. That's what I was quoted. Cheapest rover parts I've ever found.

ome or rovertym is the two contenders in the race i here that rovertym's springs sag or soemthing to that nature

which one would be the best bet out of those two and if rovertym is the winner what shocks should i pair them up with

thanks

I would go with rovertym but that is me.

If you are installing it yourself you should really try the CB thing first.

If you did not know you could not tell between that and OME HDs all around. I drove the two back to back and they felt identical.

If you don't like it front springs take an hour to swap tops.

Blake,

I ran OME's on my old disco (see my gallery). I really liked the ride, and the price. You won't regret OME, RTE makes good stuff, but from what it sounds like, you never know what you're gonna get. My post above stated where you can get springs and shocks all the way around for $400. I'll be buying my stuff from them this week.

I hope to help, hope not to be ignored as usual.

CB cheap bastard.

Disco I rears are close to an OME 751 HD front. So rather than buy 751s you put your stock rears in front and be a cheap bastard.

Hey Blake,

I was in the same position and went with the OME springs and bilstein shocks. I'm very very happy with this setup. The model number spring depends on how heavy a rig you plan on having. I went with the heavy's all around and currently have a steel roofrack. I plan on adding a ARB front winch bumper and winch, rear bumper, and a bunch of recovery equiptment. The model numbers are 751 front and 762 rear. Any place you get them from can help you with the particular model number you want. Also, check the tech section on this link under suspension, and they list all the models of OME springs.

As far as shocks I couldn't decide between the OME and Bilsteins either. As I said earlier I went with the Bilsteins, mostly because I was going to be onroad most of the time and felt that Bilsteins had the slight edge on road. However, OME have more travel and from what everyone tells me are quiet nice onroad as well. I feel this setup is the best bang for the buck and can compete with much more expensive setups. I was also considering removing the rear swaybar as I've heard with the heavy OME's you don't even miss it. I think I'll keep the front one though, haven't heard too much about handling without it. Also, if you do go with the heavy springs, I've heard that the articulation is less with the heavy springs than with the medium springs, so if this is very important to you ask around.

As far as prices go, check out Expedition Exchange and Discount Rovers. EE is the website that hosted DiscoWeb while they were down and their prices and service are very competitive. And Nathan over at Discount Rovers is very good as well. Good Luck and hope this helped

OME HD setup from EE :
Front OME 751 springs + N115 shocks
Rear OME 762 springs + N44 shocks

At the same time as the springs and shocks went on we added a set of galvanized steel diff protectors from Atlantic British ($169.95) . I would have ordered them from EE ... if they carried them.

First off, I think CB lift means "Cheap Bastard" lift - an acronym for those who want to spend less!

I personally have the RTE 2" springs and have been very pleased with them. Good quality, underrated springs and a good price for a set of four. There were some problems with the first generation RTE springs, but those have all been corrected.

RTE 2" Lift Springs and Bilstein HD shocks should serve your purposes well.

Cheap Basterd Lift---

A lift for the less wealthy. Done by removing rear springs, placing them in the front, and adding OME 762 springs in rear. Cheap, easy, good for people with discoverys that want a 2 in. lift.

I don't know about EE, but you can get the springs for the same price from www.4x4connection.com and alot less shipping. They are located in Va.

Yeah but Todd, if we don't buy from the guys who put this site up and maintain it then it won't be long before we don't have this cool place to chat with one another. If you can save a boatload then go ahead, but if we're talking a few dollars then maybe it's best to buy from EE. Just my opinion.

Todd, Jroc's right. I started using this site a few weeks ago. It's incredible that they don't make any money from it. I felt guilty and orderd something this week. I want it to stay. I've learned more about my truck in the last few weeks than I have in all the years I've owned a rover.

Buy from Expedition exchange or greatbasinrovers. The customer service is worth alot more than the $2.37 you may save in shipping!

Ron

4x4connection will probably be MORE in shipping EE shipping is cheaper as they have better rates.

EE, discountrovers.com, thatchedroofgarage.com, rovertym places like these that are one or two guys and REALLY care about rover owners are the places to shop. ANY saving you MAY find (which would be fractional as all these places are extremely reasonable) is more than lost in customer service. And being that I am the cheap bastard thats really saying something.

I looked at rovertym's site. They don't describe it very well. I can't tell how they are causing the 2" lift. Is it spring spacers or what?

I would recommend buying from EE, John Lee was great!

I bought an OME set up, it just arrived. The transaction was smooth and John responded to every question via email almost immediately after I sent it. I can't recommend EE enough. I will purchase all my aftermarket parts from them.

Muddyrover,

I don't know what the shipping would be to Alabama but the shipping to Virginia was $78.77 for total of $590.77
