I got a '95 RR 4.0 and am having problems with the climate control. The drivers side spits out hot air but the passenger side is working fine. This effects the bot the front and rear passengers as well as the defrost vents. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be or have experienced this before? Thanks. |

Sounds like a blender motor, it may not be functioning correctly or maybe stuck in one position. There are two blender motors, one for each side and sounds like your drivers side is not working right. As the name implies, it should adjust the amount of hot/cold air going out to the vents depending on what your temp setting is. Is your little "testbook" symbol lit up on your control panel? I have had the same problem as you mentioned, cold air one side and hot the other, and my testbook symbol came on. The dealer checked it out and reset the AC control panel through their testbook. The problem was one of the blendor motors was sticking and not operating properly. Dealer advised not to replace blender motor yet as it is a very nasty job with lots of labor and to see if the testbook symbol or symptoms come back. The testbook symmbol came back again. Try this: Set the temp. on your control panel all the way to high, then back to low. Do this several times, this will make the blender motor close shut and open all the way, maybe it will unstick itself, I did this and my testbook symbol went away and my system is operating correctly, for how long I don't know (knock on wood). Good Luck |

AlanB, Thanks for the tip. I tried about 6 times going from Hi to L and had no luck. On my Climate Display there is a little open book and an ! next to it. I could not find anything in the manual to there individule meanings. From your description it sounds like the open book refers to taking the RR in for the techs to look at and diagnose. Do you know what the ! could be as well. Also, did they give you an idea if its something that a DIY mechanic could fix and what the costs could be? Thanks, Rhett |

That open book with the ! symbol is the "testbook" symbol. This symbol comes on when the system detects a fault like in your case the system not cooling both sides properly, and will store in its memory what caused the fault. I hate to tell you this, but you probably will have to go to the dealer to pull the fault and tell you where the problem is, but it sure sounds like a blender motor problem. Dealer told me that it would take about 8-10 hours of labor to replace the blender motor. They have to practically take the whole dash apart to get to the motors. Atlantic British has the part for $99: http://www.roverparts.com/product_list.asp?c=&sc1=%2D+All+%2D&c1=%2D+All+%2D&type=&v=&r1=ALL&a1=ON&d1=ON&i1=ON&p1=1&Bookmark=2 If you have a dealer replace the motor, I would also have them replace your heater core o-rings, if someones has not replaced already (very common leak of coolant into passenger side footwell, leaked on mine, $0.99 part) and maybe replace the other motor while the whole dash is torn apart and any other items that might be in need of replacement soon, ask dealer. You also could buy a service manual and replace it yourself but you will still need to bring it to the dealer to find out what caused the fault. You might also have the dealer try to reset/reprogram the AC ECU to get rid of the fault and maybe the system will go back to normal. I have not had to replace my blender motor yet( as I said before, knock on wood), but I feel your pain. |

Cut and paste link above doesn't work, go to roverparts.com and search for "blend motor" Alan |

It looks like Atlantic British (roverparts.com) has a kit that replaces all the blend motors (all three, thought they had two) for $169. Good Luck Retro. |
