I know the 255/70-16 will fit fine with the stock rims/suspension, just giving me a little extra height, but I am not sure if I will have to flip the tire carrier to get the spare to fit...

Thanks,
Jason

Yes you'll have to invert the carrier, easy as 1,2,3....and away you go!

jason

you'd be better off with 245-75's
and you shouldn't have to flip the carrier...

Why would I be better off with the 245/75s?

There is no need to invert the carrier for the 255/70. It should fit fine. I have a 265/75 and that rubs alot and I should invert the carrier but haven't despite having that size tire for over a year. But inverting the carrier isn't hard to do either. I'm just lazy :)

I first upgraded to a BFG AT/ko 255/70/16 on my DSII. Visually, the right size for such a large vehicle. The extra 1/2" in height will also help you off-road. Spare fit without modification.

Same for my current 265/70/16's (31") BFG AT/ko's.
Just go with the 265/70/16's if you are only about a year away from buying the OME 1.5" lift.

I am new with the different numbers and what these sizes mean. I am just wondering what the difference in width/height is between the 265/70 and the 245/75 are. Thanks

Jason,

I have the 255/70-16 (BFG AT KO) and I have not flipped my carrier. It's a bit tight, but it works okay - I was going to flip it, but I like the extra visibility through the rear window when I'm toolin' around town (and backing out of garage, & parking spots, :( ... uh, I'd rather not pontificate on that, LOL ...)

Excellent! I am going to go with the 255/70-16s, especially since a lift is not in my near future. My only problem is that I have not been able to find that size tire in an A/T with the black letters; they are all white. I would prefer to have the all black tires. Are there any decent 255/70 A/T tires with the black lettering or is my only option to mount them with the white letters facing inward.

The only ones that I have ever seen with the all-black lettering were the original stock tires on our 95 D90 SW. It doesn't look bad with the white in. I wouldn't worry about it if you want black-out. Just a though. Thanks.

I just turned the white in, and never gave it a second thought. And yes, on the DSII, those tires were fine without a lift. I have a little lift now and still have the same tires ... heck, I should sell them to you, but I'm not allowed to spend any more time or money on mods for a little while (I'm grounded - have to fix up house first, LOL).

Will,
There are tire calculators online, but if you want to do it yourself:
for a 255/70R16 example
take 255/25.4=10.04in wide (there are 25.4mm/inch)
then multiply 10.04X.70=7.03in sidewall
then add 16in rim+(2X7.03in sidewall)=30.06in tall

ravensik

the 245-75 is the better tire
as there is less rolling resistance
than a 255, and slightly taller
also this the size
the trek disco 2 use w/o a lift.

also you are more apt to find a good
at w/o the billybob white lettering.

Steve,

I'm dyin' here ... you don't know how bad I want to cut that thing off ... I need to just ask Greg (very nicely) to do it, and get it over with ... I know it's going to be awhile before I can get a new front bumper ... ;~)

I just wanted to chime in with my opinion of tire size.

I would not want to put on 245 with the DII 8" wide rims. The Trek vehicles and DI's have 7" wide rims. There will not be as much rubber to protect the wheels offroad and curbs. (most tire makers don't include the 8" wheel on the tire guides for 245's)

But, the 245 would fit and you would have a lot more choices vs. 255/70 and 265/70.

Has anyone here run 245/75s for any significant period of time with the 8" rims and stock suspension? Any problems with that setup?
