I know this has probably been addressed before, but my cb radio is powered through a cigarette lighter adapter, and its really annoying seeing the wires everywhere....Anyone have any suggestions on what I could wire it to???? |

I'm planning on wiring mine directly to the battery, just like my amplifier. |

Here are some pics of what I did over the weekend with mine after the regular size CB was getting in the way. I was looking at the Cobra hand held unit but opted for the Midland 822 after seeing that it could be disconnected from the car and run on a battery pack with it own antenna (both the Cobra and the Midland have the same power output). When it is connected to the car it runs off of the firestik mounted to the spare tire carrier. The cord for this was run up under the center console and a small hole was drilled into the back of the tray to pass it though. THe power to the adapter is spliced into the wires that power the cig adapter. Really tight install that will also support my phone recharger. I used a adapter that I bought while I lived in Japan that has a built in 10amp fuse. Lately I have been seeing these same adapters being sold here in the US.

To wire your CB it runs to your fuse box. and It also depends on where the cb is located. Mine is on the back of the Center console. Which allows me to run my CB antenna straight down under the carpet all the way to the rear and the wiring to the Fusebox under the Driver seat and under the door sill up the side of the wall right to the fusebox and you can't see any wires any where |

my cb radio is powered through a cigarette lighter adapter I'm not sure about the Disco I but on the Disco II the cig lighter is only a 2 (or was it 1) amp circuit. That may not be enough for your radio. |

Best place is to wire it directly to the battery. Put a fuse on both sides of the firewall for safety. |

Al, According to my DII wiring tech diagram book, the 'cigar lighter' socket is on a 20 amp circuit, but the socket itself is rated only for 1 amp. The rear 'accessory socket' is rated all the way for 25 amps. However, I routinely run 7+ amps off the front cigar lighter socket without problems. |
