Daniel,
I would recommend surfing over to www.disco2.com, or to the yahoogroups.disco2owners group, and checking the archives. Likewise, you can read the article on www.expeditionexchange.com, on fitting a DI shift linkage to the DII.

I recently received a solenoid activated kit from Great Basin Rovers, that I have yet to install, but will be doing so this week.

Cheers,
Dave

Dave,

Do you have a link to the Solenoid activated on from GBR? I have looked on their site and have not been able to find it. I just purchased the parts needed from a 96 to do the swap but was wondering if the GRB CDL kit will let you mount it without cutting sheet metal and so on.

I would like to be able to put it back to stock without the dealership knowing, that way if I have any problems with the drive line they wont try to say it was caused by the CDL.

check your Rover, if it is later than an 01, you do not have a CDL capable center diff. Otherwise, rock on!

Daniel, GBR doesn't have the kit on their site. You'll have to call Bill. The company that produces it is Aussie, www.range-rov.com.au but they don't have much info to offer on the web either.

SirRobin is right, it'll probably need to be a '99 to very early '01 model to have the linkage, you can check yourself by reaching up on top of the transfer case.

As for installation, yes, it is much easier than the DI bit. Just a matter of bolting the plate and solenoid onto the CDL cover. Supposedly only takes an hour or so to install. I'll know better tomorrow when I have time to install.

It is more expensive than the DI stuff. runs about $399....

Dave,

I have a Disco produced in 03 /2001 and it has CDL in place, I already have the parts from a d1 to convert it but like the sound of what you are installing. Could you please let me know how your install goes? Do you have a digital camera? Depending on how your install goes and what you think of the kit I may sell the D1 parts I have and give the solenoid kit a try.

Anyone else have experience with this type of CDL kit?

Dave,
I do have a digital camera and will record the install. I'll let you know the details on it all.

I would recommend you call Bill at GBR to get some further references/answers. I know he has sold some of these kits to dealers and $G, but I don;t know how many plain old owners he has out there using them.

The things that sold me on it was that it installs in an hour (supposed), can be removed without having to remove the wiring for the activation switch (semi-stealth), and doesn't have the noise the DI shifter causes.

Again, I'll let you know..

Please document the installation. I am interested in this solenoid-actived CDL kit for DSIIs as well.
