i am dallas based, but will be visiting austin and the hill country soon...anybody have any advice on where to take a mostly stock DII for a bit of fun in the off-road sun?

Pretty quick and fairly easy trails on the west side of 360 (Capital of Texas Highway). You can see them from the road. |
