Help...
My Disco Pulls to the Left while applying brake. Even more noticeable when braking abruptly. I took it to a mechanic for checkup. They had the truck lifted, 4 wheels not touching the ground, then put it to drive then applied brake, the two front wheels stops almost instantaneously but the two rear wheels stops at least 2 or 3 seconds later. I am not sure if that is what causing it. They also tried to bleed the brake system and seems the pressure on all 4 wheels are ok. Then I was told that the best way to check it is to overhaul the brake calipper this way they'll be able to tell if all the piston are working.

I am not sure if the above statements from the mechanic are true or all bull shit so they can charge me.

Has anyone experienced this, any solution, hints etc.. would be highly appreciated.

Thanks..

likely culprits are worn bushings, probably radius arms on the axle side.

Or, if your vehicle is lifted, this could be the result of not enough caster.

Hey Alex do you think that he may need to check the caliper? I had a Isuzu Trooper that did the same exact thing, turned out that the caliper rods were seized.

sounds like the brakes have already been checked, and ruled out...

Take out the pads and look at them! I can almost promise you that one side will be worn more than the other. While up on the lift the wheels/brakes had virtually no weight or load so just a little bit of movement of each caliper's will make it stop spinning. Was it just you or the mechanic that was baffled that the rears stopped after the fronts? When you first apply the brake you are closing the front calipers, as you push farther down it closed the rears. Everycar should do this otherwise your rearend would come around you when braking hard. The fronts brakes are what stops you (that's why they are always so much bigger).

Ever seen anyone "powerbrake"? Only works on rear wheel drive cars [not ROVERS!](or on front wheel drives you can do it using the e-brake since it normally engages the rear calipers only) Automatic: apply left foot on brake and give gas with right, slowly lift up left foot until the rear calipers release. You now have lots of smoke and 1k miles of rubber behind you. Manual Transmission: Left foot on clutch with right heal on brake and right toes on gas. Slowly engage the clutch (let out pedal) with left foot while you apply gas with right toes at the same time of pulling right heal up to release rear brakes. You now have smoke and within a few seconds you can let the clutch out completely and sit there and watch the dollar signs engulf your car....Congratulations, you just used about 3k miles of rubber. Now slowly let off the brake and you'll leave at least another 1k miles of rubber all the way down the road too. Or you can turn the wheel while letting off the brake and do a million donuts. Empty parking lot is the best. Huh? ohhh, this is a brake discussion, oops..just thinking about the 300zx I had for 4 years. Point: Rears stop later and slower.

I just put new pads on my Disco a couple weeks ago and on the RH outside had about 15% pad left, the RH inside had 0-1%, and both Left sides had at least 50%. Mine too pulled when applying brakes. I think due to a little fade on the left side because everytime I clean I see a little gunk built up on top of that caliper telling me there is a slight leak and losing pressure.

Hey Jason, Alex & Dean - thank you so much for your input.

I do not want to take chance so I decided to buy full set of original LR brakepads (4pcs) and full set of Blue polybushes (16pcs). My mechanic will put them on this Thursday for only $120 fitting charges, I'll let you know the outcome.... If this still don't sort things out then maybe overhaul of calippers will be next!

Cheers.

Hey Guys - we've just installed the polybush and the brakepads. The real culprit is the inner brakepad of the front left wheel. This is now solved. Polybush is also installed with no noticeable difference.

cheers.

Hey -

I was lead to believe and terribly convinced after reading all those threads regarding the POLYBUSH as the best bushing ever existed. However less than a week after installing the Blue Polybush, just one trip in the dessert, the one that is on the front radius connected to chassis is gone. Dont know what happenned it is just gone, maybe pulvurised as it just disappeared without a trace. I am really disappointed, now I put everything back to the original. At this point I can say whatever it is they say about polybush is a real crap!!!
