I was recently decieved by the LR dealer into thinking that the 2002 D2 SE they sold me would have the old CDL and all i would have to do is put in the linkage from a D1. But as most everyone who frequents this board is probably aware....very few post '00 discos actually have the knob on the transfer case to engage the CDL. I was wondering if anyone knew the feasability of putting in one of the older D2 cases that has the knob, so i would be able to hook up the old D1 linkage arm. |

http://www.expeditionexchange.com/cdl/...if the t case is an LT 230 you should be able to do it..the dealership can do it |

well.....that is exactly the problem. when i was trying to adress the problem of the missing linkage arm i was familiar with from my defender, i found that the transfer case was different from the one in those instructions. what i am actually wondering is: can i install the transfer case that has the knob on top? i guess that is probably the LT230, because mine doesnt have it - thanks -Mike |

i think that after '00 most of the d2s had a different transfer case that looks ecactly like the old one, but just doesnt have the knob mounted on the top of it - the case i have actually shows signs that they just modified the mold slightly to eliminate that option |

i finally found a dealership that would give me a clear answer. just in case anyone is curious, LR Peabody they said they eliminated the locking CDL in '02, but any case from '99 to '01 would fit in it just fine, and they would even make the conversion for me, although they wouldnt recommend it. they also said it would be rather expensive....who would have guessed? |

From what I've read in the shop manual, changing out the t-box does not appear to be terribly difficult, just tedious. Question is, you'd have to find an older t-box. Are you postive yours doesn't have the CDL "bolt"? |

yes i am positive - i will probably check the junk yards, since a new one is at least 1500usd...if anyone has one from a '99 or newer they wouild like to get rid of...maybe wishful thinking |

BTW... the t-case used in the DiscoII's with the CDL is the LT230SE |

NO! As I posted before you "should" not have to change the whole case. Just swap the front output housing. I can't know 100% but it should be way cheaper than a new case. Ron |
