Hi all,

Our 95 disco just threw a 44 code right after we got some major work done one the engine (cyl. head gaskets). I went to the link in the tech section and it said that a code 44 had something to do with a Lambda A sensor.

First, what is a Lambda A sensor and were is it? Should I replace this bugger or can I fix it as is? Any other thoughts on the subject?

O2 sensor bank A. I would reset the light and then see if it comes back, if so replace the O2 (preferably both).

Ron,

I tried to reset the light but it wouldn't do anything. Thus, I guess the O2 sensors have gone south.

Were are the O2 sensors? Are they located before the cats? Thanks.

o2 is located on your exhuast pipe, just befor the cat converter.there is one on each pipe. you can see it from the top..look for a long prob that sticks out from the pipe with wires on it.. heck.. dude- it is the only thing on your exhauste pipe with wires on it!! :-)

Regardless of the condition of the sensors, you should be able to extinguish the light, until you run the engine and the fault reappears.

Before replacing the sensor, given your having just had work done, I'd check to make sure the sensor wiring isn't fouled, and that the individual who put your engine back together didn't overlook reconnecting the sensor. The connector is a round, "Natural" colored plastic ocnnector that runs along behind the cylinder head-it has three wires.

Paul,

Yea, I just need to crawl up under the truck and have a general look. Thanks for the tip on the wiring. I assume with these newer rovers that they just naturally have decent wiring :-).

Also, the guy who did the work is a very good mechanic who takes care of our fleet (except for the 109, I wrench on it). Very rarely will he goof but its usually the little things like this so I will inspect the whole 02 assembly.
