I know this isn't an original idea, but since the rover V8 is based on the old Buick V8, does anyone know if a Buick small block will mate with the LR bellhousing or transmission?

Gary:
The nailheads were iron engines. Regardless of the fit issue, why would you want to put an engine in that would no doubt weigh far more than the Rover engine?

That said, I wish I still had the nailhead I foolishly left in my mother's shop.

Peace,
Paul

If I were to change my motor I'd definitely look at a diesel of some type. It somehow seems to match the unstoppable spirit of my 95 D1.

That said I've oft wondered how the motor in the 96 Tahoe I got rid of to make room for the disco could have so much torque and yet knock down 18 to 20 mpg hiway. I guess the Disco weighs an extra 600 to 800 lbs.

it is possible to put a deisel in a pretrol.. it takes LOTS OF WORK! take your car to belize, central america, and those guys can do it! it will cost a good penny a pound! (british pun!)
iif i cant find a good used deisel in Belize, i will have mine converted.

Didn't Oldsmobile take a 350, cut the deck down and run it on Diesel?

i am not sure. i have seen them do it. and if you go to cuba, or see fotos of the cars, you will see it too. but i really don t know HOW they did it... i do know they mention that all the injections to each cylender had to be of the same equal length from the main fuel line..dude.. i sound stupid! i have no clue what they were saying.. they spoke spanish, and it aint easy translating technical stuff.

just go to belize city. fly down and drive 48 hrs back!. the tdi discos are $20k us. and i am sure you could go find a used one really cheap.

there are guys who can convert them.. but remember, they dont work on the USA time schedule. they finish it whenever they finish it.. sometimes months! like i said.. i will try to find a used deisel first.

oh.. if you go down.. bring your tag and a blank vehicle registration card. you will need it to cross through mexico. OHH- IT'S TAX FREE!! 20K IS ALL YOU PAY. VISIT www.jmamotors.com they also have the 4 door deisel defenders and other models you could only dream of buying!

if you fly from st.louis to cancun it is $150 round trip. stay the night at a christian hotel for $30 bux a night( www.cancunparadisebeach.com ). hop a bus to belize for 50 bux, stay in a best western hotel accross the street from LRCA for $60 bux a night. bring your cash, take your car and return home in 48hrs non-stop drive. oh..they speak english.

i just talked to JMA belize.. they want $50,000 us for tdi disco.

they have defenders 110 and 130 37,000.

of course if you pay us cash, they can go way lower.. but negotiate in person only. not over the phone. you will screw thing up for everyone.

CUBA - there are loads ex-gas cars from the fifties which have had things like Lada and small truck diesels transplanted in - I even saw a Porsche 356 which certainly sounded and smelt diesel but never got a look under the hood. Don't think they convert gas engines though - compression ratios too low.
