Hi: I mounted my 5.6" TV on the roof right in front of the sunroof controls. It is pretty easy to do. I also mounted the DVD player under the driver's seat.... |

seems like a great place would be to mount it wher the roof level bumps up. unless you want to watch it from the cockpit in which case i think a laptop with dvd would be a better solution. rd |

My Disco came with three TVs installed, one in the passenger sun visor, and one in each headrest for the backseat. The DVD player is under the passenger seat. I can't give you too many details about the installation since I didn't do it, but this set up seems to work for me. |

Personally if I ever feel the urge for dvd in car, I'd buy a laptop with DVD in for a lot less dollars...hell, could even run a great GPS set up too. Anyone make a laptop with detachable screen? |

FWIW, I've had TV in my truck since 98 and have watched the evening news whilst stuck in traffic about 3 times. I do use it for rear view when I'm backing up and have never watched any TV on it (other than the news). Basically, they are a waste of money unless you can run sat nav off it. Just a piece of advice for those contemplating getting one, think about when you are going to watch it? However, if you have young children and want to stop them getting bored on long trips then go for it. |

Carter, you would understand if you had kids! On a recent long trip I took my lap top and ran it off a invertor. Kept the kids happy. I would install one if they weren't sooo expensive. The new 2003 D2's have a nice system installed from the factory. It has a nice cut out to match the rise in the roof. Can't imagine, how much they would want to install it at the dealer, or if you can even get one. If I did one for the kids, I would want a roof mount system with earphones. If anyone has a line on a good deal let me know. |

What you talking about??? I got 16 kids, only got to pay child support for 7 of em though Kids today watch to much TV and play to many video games anyway, teach them to read that should pass the time in the car. |

One million, six hundred and ninety-eight thousand, three hundred and forty-six bottles of beer on the wall, one million, six hundred and ninety-eight thousand, three hundred and forty-six bottles of beer... If one of those bottles should happen to fall... One million, six hundred and ninety-eight thousand, three hundred and forty-five bottles of beer on the wall... Cripes. I prefer to interact with my kids instead of some fucking TV. Hell I finally have them captive so I can indoctrinate them myself on long trips. But I'm not judging anyone. |

As far as a Laptop is concerned... Fujitsu makes a great, small laptop with a DVD-CDRW, we use it with an inverter and run a cd-tape adapter and the sound is awesome for such small airspace. The Laptop is a fujitsu p-series, very small and it fits very well on the center console for the back seat passengers to see... you can also get a GPS PCMCIA card off ebay for little overhead. but bonding with the family is a better choice... |

I'm reasonably certain that the overhead screen will not activate unless the handbrake is on (thats the law here in Oz), so this rules it out as far as watching it on long trips. You can override it easily enough, however,I assume that it is illegal also in the US, and the overhead screen would be a giveaway to any cops who happened behind you.

I hope I NEVER understand the kids thing Thom Acutally I'm just joking around, if its for kids on long trips thats one thing but if its just for 'bling' factor then you've got problems. |

I'm getting ready to drive 3500 miles or so with two kids (5 & 8). I looked at the flip down screens, etc., but they were pricey. Like as much as a good bumper, or diff guards and sliders...so I went to Costco and bought a 9" ac/dc TV/DVD combo for $199. Fits perfectly on the edge of the middle back seat, resting against the center console. Although accessing the center console is a PITA, everything else about it is great, and it can provide "in-room" entertainment in the hotel room too. The clincher for me was at the speciality store where I was looking at the seperate systems - the salesman asked what kind of car I drove and I told him. His reponse was "I'm not sure if we've ever put one in a Discovery, but we do lots and lots of Suburbans, Expeditions and mini-vans." And most importantly (for my trip, but off the thread subject) I switched to Mobil 1 on the most recent oil change (30k). It's been in for around 1k and I'm going to change it this weekend, before we leave, thinking it's been removing any residual "funk" from the previous dino oil. My other SUV has 150k on Mobil 1 and when replacing an intake manifold gasket two years ago, the internals that were visible looked brand new and no sludge, etc. on any part of the valve train, rocker covers, anywhere I could see. I noticed also that the Disco seems to have more throttle response, and revs up a little quicker since the switch. Of course, this is totally subjective, but noticed the same thing on my Exploder back in '93 when I switched to Mobil1 on it's first oil change. |

Jack, I have a similar 9" TV/VCR combo for my 3-5 year olds. It works great. I would like to switch to a permanent install though, I figured if I was ever in a wreck or flipped, that TV would be like a cannon ball inside the rig! |

The family and I are headed on a road trip this summer and just about anything on TV is more interesting than the New Mexican landscape so a little TV can be a good thing. Rather than buy, we're renting a TV/DVD setup that hangs from the front seats. It's $20/week to to rent from a local 'Rent-a-Center' place. For as often as we'd use something like that, renting is IDEAL ! |

John, The loose tv bouncing around the cabin was/is a concern that I have as well. But I'll also have a 90lb golden retriever (no dog fence thing) in the back along with toys, food, cooler, etc., so if I flip or wreck it's gonna be ugly I looked at an '03 RR with the built in screens, it was very cool, but stickered for around $82k. I haven't seen the Disco's head rest screens yet. Renting sounds like a great solution, wish I'd thought of it... |

Cape Fear, Our closest Dealer had an SE7 with the screens built into the headrests. Very good installation and I thought it was very cool. No kids....yet. Paul '00 Pig |
