I know this has been debated many times. Anyone who has tried both, let me know what you think and what size you'd buy again. Thanks.

235/85 is just too skinny, but they fit without much lift.

Greg-

What are those in the first shot? 235/85? I like them.

I am still looking for my new tires. So far I like the Avon Mud Terrains from LesSchwab.com (standard on some British LR's) The 215/85's That should be about the same size that is on Camel Trophy trucks. I like the thin look and ride much better than the fat mudder look. I do not want to go above 235, and I would like to fill the void in my wheel wells with a tire that is about 30 inches Dia.

The photos help!!!

Kuhmo venture MT at tire rack for $88/each, 235/85/16.

Handle well off-road, noise is what you'd expect on road for an MT and cheap. good reviews too. I've had them for about two months and am very happy with them.

Can't see the tread, but can see how they fill the wheel wells ...

OK, but will the 235/85 require trimming on a DI with 2" of lift? rubbing on the wheel well and rim? I would like to not have to deal with trimming and rubbing.

No trimming, I just did the Kyle method of flaring the rear wheel-wells out. Works great, no rubbing and I didn't have to cut anything.

I've been running the Kuhmo's on my DII 245/75-16. I've been happy with them. The lugs don't wrap onto the side wall very much so sidewalls take a bit more abuse but they've held up so far. I just lifted my truck so I'll be changing to a 265/75-16 soon. *Don't show John at EE your Kuhmo tires! He doesn't like Korean tires... only Korean women!!!*

On my Stock D1, with the OME HD springs & shocks with the BFG 235/85/16 MT's, I had to trim the front bumper end-caps a considerable amount.

The rear I have yet to address for I haven't been offroad yet. The rear WILL hit. I took a corner quickly (someone cut me off, emergency), and the left rear hit the fender area in a real quick motion. Other than this, the regular around town driving is ok.

255/80/r16, BFG Mud Terrains with a two inch lift on a D1. Approx 32" tyre comparison. I love em. Helps with the clearance as well. 255 are 10"inch wide approx.
No rubbing or grinding or guard squashing as yeet

Has anyone had them both on a dI? I was hoping to hear how much more traction the 265 offers.

Calvin, I had Michelin 7.50 R16 X 4x4 on my D1 before I switched to 265/75R16 BFG MTs. Especially on soft ground in the german woods, the diffrence is enormous. Sure, partly because of the tread pattern, but I feel the larger contact pad prevents the heavy disco from sinking and digging.

Sounds like a few of you are saying the 235/85's are rubbing a little. The taller size along with the 235, 245, 255 size would allow the treads to reach the rim.

i have fitted 235/85 16's to our 97 disco. we flared the rear a bit. no rubbing there but up inside the well they rub at the back on the anled bit of metal there.. dunno how im gonna fix that. they are a skinny tre.. average in the sand but good in the mud. cut right down to the hard pan and dont skid about all over the place....

Jenz: I wouldn't try fitting a 285x75x16 tire onto a 7" rim, it's just too wide. It might look good bulging over the rim driving around on the street, but go for a drive in the "Black Forest", hmmmmm. You would probably just get away with it on an 8" rim.

Thanks, Roland.
BFG says minimum 7.5''.
I'll probably stay with the 265s cause they perform very good overall with my actual setup. If I feel the need to rise ground clearance a fraction more, I will take a look at 255/85 R 16, because I'm very pleased with my 7'' CW-Wheels.
