Grrr, Vehicle is a 94' D1, EFI 3.9l. AB told me to BREAK the old Rotor apart before removing it. Great. So I squeeze it with pliers, NOTHING. Hmmm, Needle Nose Vise Grips....NOTHING. Hmm, Hack Saw. Now its missing most of the rotor arm so I can get a clean shot at the rest of the part, What do you know. I STILL CANT REMOVE IT! GRRRRRRRRrr. How does this thing come off. I dont want to break my Distributor but I'm past the point of no return now. :-( Back outside to keep trying. THanks TOdd |

YAY! Strike this problem. I got it. 15min break, a message to D-Web and 1/2 a beer and Boom. I got it. Went back, took a few more saw strokes under the rotor arms at the top of the shaft and was able to get a flat blade screwdriver in there and pry the top off. Then with the top of the rotor off I was able to pry out the little tab that indexes the rotor on the shaft and it pulled right off. YAY, now with a new CAP/ROTOR & Magnecore Wires my baby's ignition system is back in good shape for the summer. She is now ready for towing the boat, etc. Sorry for the worthless post. l8r Todd |

Todd: Be very careful when doing this. Recently, I broke the rotor arm off a Rangie and wouldn't you know, pieces of the broken rotor fell down inside the dust shield, necessitating my removing the distrbutor to fish the little pieces out! BTW-I use a flat blade screwdriver and a small hammer and strike it dead center, the arm always breaks into a few pieces, first stroke. Peace, Paul |

I never like to hit my distributor with anything so use the "crush" method that many VW's require. I first run a piece of tape around gap between shaft and plastic shield then take a large vise grips and "crush" the middle large part of top of rotor. Works every time. |

Hey anybody else that reads this, resist the urge to yank up on the thing. Bad news may follow! |
