Check this out: Running down the highway at about 70 mph and the truck dies for about 5 seconds and starts running again. I did not know what the heck it was. Got a tester and found that the error was a bypass valve. Well I checked everything under the hood and found that nothing there would change things. It got worse… the truck would not run for more than 15 seconds and die and then live again for 15 seconds. Well too far from any one that knew anything, I started tearing into it some more. Found the line that ran to the questionable valve was coming from the fuel tank. Now remember this in case it happens to you. I pulled the tank out… damn that sucked, and took a look around. Did not find anything there. Except the access panel that is under the carpet. Oh well… decided to try something. Pulled the plug that goes to the valve on the fuel pump, not the fuel pump motor, and guess what? it ran. Was able to get back home, replaced the fuel pump in about twenty min. It works fine now.

Except for one thing. We are now idling at around 2000 rpm… Damn. Where do I go from here? Also the Cruise control has stopped working. Changed the speed sensor and I am thinking that the problem is with the cruse is the vacuum pump.

Two questions: Idle Speed and Cruse control…

The high idle could be a vacuum leak, a dirty stepper motor/ air bypass valve, or leaky injectors, possibly. I would clean the bypass valve if you haven't already. The cruise control hose can come loose and lose pressure. My discovery would usually idle really high when it was colder out, but it was an occassional thing. Good luck. Dave

Clip the ends of the cruise control hoses off and push them back on the nipple, should work fine after the three hoses.
