My Key will not come out of the ignition. I take that back it will come out after I remove the battery. But as soon as power is restored The damn thing holds onto it for dear life again. Any suggestions. Tyler |

Mabey you bumped the transfer case shifter, usually it is accompanied by a beeping niose, and it wont allow you to remove key, must be all the way engaged, you can still drive truck, even though not fully in, also must be in P, to remove key, mabey ?shift cable adjustment? Please post when you do figure it out! Peter. |

If it's an automatic, check that the button on the gear selector is not sticking, making the vehicle 'think' that it's not in park and therefore hanging onto the key. Prise up the cap on the gear selector and push (or rap lightly with a screw driver) down on the bolt/kedge. If that is the problem, a little white grease in that gear selector will fix you up. I'll try those things tomorrow. I left it at my mechanics for the night snug as a bug in his garage, after all the key is still in it. Tyler |

the clip worked itself off the gear shift lever. Pop the cover off and push it down and lock it in place with the piece that popped off...God I hope that made sense. |

I tried messing with my high low range selector to no avail. The button on the main shifter seems to go in and out freely so I dont think that it is sticking. Does any one have any other ideas what might be keeping me from retreving my key. It will be a major pain in the ass if I have to disconnect the battery every time I want to take my key with me. Tyler, the button will still seem normal even though the retainer clip came off. All you have to do is pry the cap off the top of the main shifter with a flat head screwdriver and you'll be able to tell right away if thats the prolbem, at least you can rule it out. good luck |

There is a multi plug behind the ignition that you could un plug to release the key, but find the problem instead! Peter |

A word of warning: With the key stuck in the ignition make sure you have another key handy - don't rely soley on the remote fob. I was in mexico, gear selector went goofy, left the key in it, remote unit battery went dead, couldn't get back into the vehicle, (a la HAL 2000), had to cut out one of the back windows to crawl through, NIGHTMARE! |
