I got my stuff to fix my rear diff for my 96 Disco. The 3rd member received has 4 bolts to attach to the driveshaft, my old 3rd member only has 3 bolts.
Did I get a 3rd member to be used with the conversion drive shaft? Can I use a RR rear differential on my Disco to solve this problem?
Also, the half shafts look a bit different. Upon visual inspection, the length appears in order but the end cap, the outside part, looks a bit different, is this a problem?
I left a message with GB, hopefully they will call back soon.

That's the flange on the HD axles that GBR sells, it should not be a problem, from what I understand, it's suppose to be beafier than the stock. I think there's an adapter for your drive shaft. I don't personally have them, but did a bit of research a couple of months ago. Now I have drive shaft envy!

Jose..

I dont know the specifics.. but the fact that you had a 3 bolt 3rd member on the driveshaft end is very odd.. therefore the fact that you know have a 4 bolt one, you are returning to normal..

Whats your vehicle model / year..?

Did you have a rotoflex coupling?

if you could take a picture of your old one and the new one and pull the camera back a bit that would help.

you will need to transfer the flange and centering pin from your old third member onto the new one . then you can continue to use the stock rot-flex style driveshaft.

hold onto the 4 bolt flange and you will be 1 step ahead of the shaft conversion you will desire down the road .

Hi,

I experienced the same thing as you did. I ordered the same parts and got a u-joint setup than I anticipated. I have a 96 disco came with the rotoflex. I ordered the 3rd memeber with 4.11 gear and ARB locker installed. When I got them, the rear 3rd member came with the U-joint setup. I ended up purchasing a new driveshaft with it. If you need more information, give me a call at 707-843-6171 (Cell) I will be happy to go over the detail with you.

my apologies Jose, I had no idea the rotoflex versions were 3 bolt, I just assumed that everyone was a 4 bolter. Depending on how you wheel, and with GBR axles and a locker installed I would assume you wheel, you might as well get a double cardon shaft from Tom Woods or Rovertym. Saves you the vibration troubles at least in back if you have or get a lift at or over 4 inches.

jose,
sorry, i re-read your post. yes you did get a conversion,( non roto) pinion flange.
no, it won't work with your roto.
for what its worth, the roto wont last long with a locked rear. i would get a new drive shaft and be greatful that you just received a free pinion flange. call bill (GBR) he also has drive shafts.
or take the C.B. approach and swap the flange and plan to replace the roto when it goes.

Look torward the junk yards, or check this boards classifieds, you can use an 88 or 89 rrc drive shaft with your diff how it is! or just as others said, switch out the flange from your roto rear end!, Dont forget that when you remove the 4 bolt flange, there is a spacer that i believe, doesn't get used with the 3 bolt flange, Nice axels! just installed a pair in my disco, they fit nice and you still retain alloy wheels!
Peter.

Hello all,

Issue resolved!!! I ended up buying an used RR rear driveshaft ($120). The Disco is back on 4WD with locker and heavy duty shafts. Thank you all for the replies.
