Hi guys, I just bought a 1996 Discovery and its a great car!! One thing though, can you guys give any tips on the maintenance needed to keep it from braking on me (other than normal change of oil and so on...) Lastly, I cannot for the life of me find the radio code, Ive called the dealer for it but they dont have it and the previous owner is not helping...is there anything I can do? Thank you VERY much, Miguel |

>>Ive called the dealer for it but they dont have it They are lying. They can look it up by VIN for any vehicle on the computer... UNLESS 1. They just don't hand it out over the phone. (They should have said that) Not unreasonable of them to want to see that the radio is still attached to the vehicle. When I wanted to clean the battery terminals, I just stopped the service advisors desk and gave him the VIN and he had it in a few minutes. They should be especially coooperative if they sold you the vehicle. 2. The radio is from a different vehicle, IWC you might need to pull it to check the serial number on the radio. Someone on the board had this problem recently enough for me to remember. 3. It isn't a factory radio, IWC you should be able to call the manufacturer. >>the previous owner is not helping That is curious. If s/he never disconnected the battery they might never have needed the code. |

Try another dealer. Some want you to come in so they can charge you for the service, which I guess is how they stay in business, but some will give it to you over the phone/fax/email. All they need is your VIN and they should be able to get it for you. As far as maintenance, use a quality oil (not the 89cent special at Wal-Mart or whereever, change regularly, and use your CDL and low range periodicly (sp?). The lever has a tendency to freeze up if not used. I'm sure others on the board can think of other stuff to do as well. BTW, it's not a car. It's a Rover! Steve H |

Shot in the dark, but worth a try. If you have the owner's manual, check in the front cover, back cover, and in the radio section. Previous owner or service guy might have written the code in there. That's where I found mine. (Of course, I ripped those pages out and shredded them, then burned the scraps, so don't anybody come steal my radio!) J |

Thank you so much for the replies.... I will go in into a land rover dealer and have them check the vin for me, the dealer I bought the Rover (not car )was not a land rover dealer, I found that Rover by luck, they had just received it when I looked at it (of course buying it on the spot!!) Thank you again for the replies, Miguel |

Sorry, Thank you also for the maintenance tips, of course only the best for the rover and Ill use **EVERYTHING** periodicaly!! If there is anything special that I should have an eye on it every now and then, please let me know. I plan on having it checked (aside from oil, that comes early)every 10K to 15K, is this enough? Thanks, Miguel |
