Well, here is my first technical post regarding my '96 Disco. Up until yesterday, the remote was locking the doors just fine (and setting the alarm), but now all the doors except the driver's lock. The driver's lock goes down a tiny bit (as if it is locking), but then pops back up again. I can stick the key in and lock it, of course, but it is annoying. Any ideas how to investigate this? Thanks! -Chris |

Take the door panel off and look around in there. |

Will the lock go down if you apply slight downward pressure? If so, the actuator(spelling?) is going bad. You can pay $70+ to replace or us a carberator spring inside the door to create the needed downward pressure. I did this trick years ago and it still works.

Neal - yeah, that might be the problem. I think I've held off on the repair for a little while with some judicious use of teflon lubricant. It's working again, and we'll see if the fix works for good or not. Cheers!

Neal: If you need a new regulator and can go junkyard shopping, the regulator is made by Hella. Many euro cars have it including 87-90 SAAB 9000. maybe cheaper and easier than finding one in a Rover. |
