I have a 2003 Disco with 3200 miles. It's leaking motor oil from between the bell housing and transmission. The dealer states it is from an engine seal up above and it is progessively getting worse. My question is do I let the dealer tear apart the whole underside of the truck or live with this. Could the fix create a worse situation? I really hate oil leaks. This is my first Disco, hopefully not my last.....

Had the same thing on my '95. It seems they haven't done much redesigning since. The good news is that everything was just fine after repairs.

Welcome to the world of Land Rover and be glad that the in-built "Rust Prevention" system is working.

New car with an oil seal leak isn't the end of the world, or an indication of a bad vehicle.

Stuff happens, which is why manufacturer's provide warranty. I've had a Ford and Volvo both with main seal leaks under warranty, and both were repaired without incident('01 D2 w/ no leaks "yet").
I had to have my D2's engine wiring harness replaced due to mud, sand, etc. in some connections causing shorts:-) I was concerned the dealer would do a crappy job, leading to other problems so I traced the new harness, and whoever did the install at Denver Land Rover South did an excelent job, probably better than when it was installed at the factory. More than likley, your dealer will do the same, provide a quality repair (not always the case, but let's hope so).

Take it in for repair, drive a loaner (hell, ask for a RR!) and then wait for the idler pulley, radiator, and various other goodies to need repair - all under warranty!
