Attempted to install Chris Urquieta's "lever style" CDL lock today on my 2000 D2. After the install, pulled the handle "out", but nothing happened on the dash. Shouldn't I have seen an indicator light come on, confirming that the CDL was locked? How much does the stud need to rotate to lock? Seemed like the bracket that turns the stud would move ninety degrees or so. Tried engaging with the truck running and with the truck off, nothing happened either way. Any ideas? Thanks.

try engaging the cdl with a 10mm wrench to get a feel for how it works. There is an indicator light in the instrument panel that should light up. You might have to move the truck a bit (10-15 ft forward or back) to get it to engage.

I have chris's handle and it works great.

Rex,

You definately have to "feel" the engagement of the CDL. Mike is right, sometimes you have to move the truck to get it to work.

Yes Rex, movement of the truck is going to be the key for both engagement and disengagement when it comes to the light. Sometimes it may take even more than 10to15 feet.

Paul, i think the bolt needs to turn more for the cdl light to come on, had the same problem with the D1 kit.

All of these guys are dead on. In order for the center differential to lock, there needs to be as little tension in the center diff as possible, so this may necessitate some forward or backward vehicular movement.

This causes some problems when using an external lever or device for the D2 CDL. Not only it inconvenient, but it can be a safety factor as well. I've seen this scenario before:

get out of truck
push/pull CDL lever... no CDL light
get in truck
move forward...
get out of truck again
push/pull lever... no CDL light
get in truck again
move backward...
get out of truck AGAIN
push/pull lever... OK, got it.
get in truck AGAIN

Imagine trying to simplify this by having a friend push/pull the lever while the driver moves the vehicle. Definite safety risk.

The elegance of an internal solution is not just for convenience, but can be safer too.
