Does anyone have any pictures of thier Disco with the Safari Grille. I think it would look cool, but I havn't seen anybody with one yet. By the way anyone who has done the grille, do you use the old L/R emblem or do you have to buy a new one.

Thanks

I searched archives and found that Jack (Olered), Keith Kreutzer (Revor), & Nadim Samara (Discodino) all have one...

I believe Nadim has pictures of it on his website.

Keith said, "I Just put the Saudi Grill on my '97... Looks cool!!! I even stole the old grill badge eoff my original Grill epoxied a couple screws to the back and stuck it on the new grill.."

...but where do you think you are going to find one?

Nadim's isn't the mesh type, I guess the saudi and safari grill are two differant things?

Would it be that rough to take out the grille, cut the inside pieces out and get some chicken wire or wire mesh to replace it while maintaining the frame of it? A man would think it should slide right in. I'm curious if there is any way to get rid of the middle and make it look as if it had never been done. Maybe doing some fine filing work on it. Come out cheaper too.

I'm gonna see if I can either get a couple extra grills or make a mold out of one and do as Carter mentioned above but using a high quality screen or fine wire mesh painted black.

I never mentioned doing that, Garrett did. Personally I think its a bad idea that will wind up looking pretty bad.

It doesn't look bad at all actually, a friend of mine did it. I can ask him about it when he gets home.

I think Land Rover will sell you a "Saudi grill" without your having to prove you own a Kalahari (though most dealers will ask for your VIN for the black hood sticker.) I'll be back with photos of mine tonight...

It would be relatively simple to make the grill yourself using a rotary tool like a Dremel.

Horrible photochop job but you get the idea...

Custom Grill

I got the grill picture from eBay and pasted in this stainless steel mesh:

ss_mesh.jpg

Cost is about $6.00 per square foot. Maybe some people would like it shiny stainless or body colored but I think I would prefer it to be black.

If anyone is looking for one, www.northeastbritishparts.com has them for $100 plus shipping. I bought mine from them a couple months ago and it was only $80 including shipping so you may want to try to squeeze them a bit.

Land Rover will sell you the Saudi Grill for the D2. However, I was quoted well in excess of $300 for the grill last time I checked. Unbelieveable! As you might guess, I decided my stock grill was ok after all.

What's the grill I've seen with the 1/2" to 3/4" holes drilled across it? Is it a LR O.E.M. part or just someone with some time and speed bits on a drill?

Nadim has the grill with the holes across the top and bottom...

In a post a while ago I think he said it came stock like that on his saudi spec disco.

Damn - I like that one better than my own "Saudi" mesh grill.
