I'm trying to remove the front rotors on a Disco II and the screw that's holding it in place is FROZEN. Any tips on removing them? |

I had to generously lubricate the screw a number of times before it would break free, and I still had to put a lot of muscle into it. Also make sure you have the right sizes screw driver. I didn't on the first side I attempted, and nearly stripped the screw round. murph '99 DSII |

Finally got it out. I tried lube, heat, ran out and picked up the biggest phillips screw driver I could find and still stripped both front screws. I even tried percussive maintenance (3lb hammer). What actually did it was a dremmel tool to the screw and I cut a slot big enough to fit a large screw driver. I put a vise grip to the handle of the screw driver and gave it a firm turn and they came out. What a PITA! Thanks =) Al '99 Disco II |

Do yourself a favor. When you replace that screw, replace it with a socket head cap screw or a torx. Anything that isn't as easy to strip as a phillips. Hell even Pozidriv is better. I hate Phillips screws and replace them wherever I find them on my truck. -P |
