Disco'I 97 1. Is there any way to figure out what kind of lubricate I have in my swivel pin housing: the one which needs renewing or that magic never-change-me stuff? 2. Haynes manual calls for replacing "all braking system hydraulic fluid seals, the vacuum servo filter, and all flexible brake fluid hoses" as part of this service while the service checklist in Disco user's manual says that one should only "check all rubber brake hoses and investigate further if necessary". So should I worry about the servo filter or any seals inside the master cylinder? Thanks! |

1. Open the drain. If oil comes out, you've got 90wt. If nothing comes out you've got grease. 2. I've never changed any of that stuff. Nor do I know anyone who has changed anything in the master cylinder or anywhere else. Maybe someone else here has a different experience. -P |

On your swivels, If they are a black anodoized color they will have the grease already in them from the factory. If they are a chrome finish then they will have 90w oil. I think that LR started that in 97. On the brake fluid just change the fluid with DOT 3. and inspect the lines and pads. I have used a trukey baster for removing the fluid from the master cylinder, I just dont think that I would but it back in the Kitchen after that!! David C. |

That's DOT 4 on the brake fluid.. DOT 3 has been out of spec for many years. -P |

Flush the brake fluid, as P said-DOT4. Dealer will use that surely. Also replace the thermostat ! and coolant. Check condition of the vac adv unit-the diaphram could be cooked by now-age does this, coupled w/mileage. Flush the f+r diffs. Flush the power strg fluid. Clean the stepper motor unit. Wouldn't worry on the other items you listed, (not @ 60k). It's a cya for LR/Haynes. Need to do- no. Best- doug 95 @ 99k |

My mistake on the brake fluid, it is DOT 4. David C. |

I did something backwards so avoid this. First I bled the lines then replaced the fluid in the reso with a finger pump. What I failed to realize was I introduced more air into the lines during the reso fluid replacement process. So, after you replace the fluid in your master, then bleed your lines, not backwards as I did. Daah, why that happen? |

Is the "cam belt" the timing belt? AFAIR, the manual says to replace it at 90K or even at 120K miles, doesn't it? Anybody else would advise to replace it at 60K ? I've definitely changed the serpentine belt. |

There is no cam belt in the 3.9/4.0 engine. Only the diesels. The Petrol engines have timing chains which do not get replaced. -P |
