Ok i dont know if this is a retarded ? but i thought i would ask it anyways. Ok if thier is no oil in my differential, can i still drive my rover and it not cause harm or damage. Im a retard about this please help |

I'm no expert, but if it were okay to drive without gear dope in your diff, then the diff wouldn't come with it in the first place...just my $.02. |

wow the quality of information is at a all time high these days no oil in the diff would cause big damage to the ring ,pinion, side gears and spider gears in very short order. the bearings would be worthless in no time as well |

I'm sorry, but that is like asking.. If there isn't any oil in my engine, would it hurt to drive it to Taco Bell? Or, like that posting awhile back about the girl "making" her own gasoline by pouring oil into the gas tank then proceeding to fill it with water.. |

jordan the differential is a gear driven device that allows the two wheels to turn at different speeds to allow smooth cornering. the force is converted into heat , the oil/fluid carries the heat and disapates it to the case of the differential. if there is little or no oil the friction then causes excesive heat that very quickly destroyes the unit. |

ahah no, well i know how the oil works man ahah but i see about the diff now. thanks cause my axle had to be take off and straightened and my rover is helpless with no oil in diff.It was kinda just a what if question im not toatally retared just kinda ahah |
