Hey guys i just bought my 1996 Disco but the battery is toast. ive heard a lot of people recommend the Optima batteries but the only place near where i live that sells them is Autozone and i called three locale stores and asked them if they had a battery for the Disco and they couldn't find Land rover in the spec. book. So they told me they sold red ones, green ones and yellow ones. that was the best they could do to help me.

I called the dealer and they said they sell Interstates. can any body recommend a good brand and give me the specs? thanks in advance.

It's pretty much all about how much you want to spend. Compare the warranties, cold cranking amps, how many times it can be cycled, etc.

The following places offer free shipping on the Optima batteries:
www.absbattery.com/optimamainpg.htm
www.4x4cyberstore.com/website/optima.html
www.1st-optima-batteries.com/

I too have the Optima Red Top.

I found the best price (159.95 for the D31M Blue Top) here:

http://optimabatterystore.com/index.htm

No bracket needed.

Its a plug and play...though I do wonder if you can use the side posts as well as the top posts. Be useful for adding accessory circuits
Anyone?

Yes it is a straight fit for an optima battery, the side posts can be used for your winch, driving lights, ect. keeps things looking clean!

You should not use the side posts for your winch. Instead use the side posts for the starter and top posts for your winch. Accessories like lights, stereos, CB radios and such can go on either terminal.

ok guys im sitting pretty with a shiny new red top Optima , top posts. it was a bitch getting the old interstate out. i got a nice set of bloody knuckles.

just a little side note here: i did the battery change at work and forgot to bing tools with me so i had to borrow one from this guy that is the foreman of the production department where i work, and i told him i had bought a new truck and needed to replace the battery. he said, "oh yeah what kind of truck?" and when i didnt say the ford f150, or chevy or even Toyota and i said, "a Land Rover" he said, "why?" i was so pissed. what the F was that for? man people really resent the hell out of Land Rovers don't they?

Jason, smear the terminals with vaseline or dialetic grease. It will help keep them clean, fight corrision and help your shiny new optima live a bit longer.

Another thing to get used to is every time you say Land Rover they ask what model Toyota is that? At auto zone you might have to tell them Range Rover first then Disco. Range Rover NA was here before Land Rover NA and some auto software still uses the Range Rover as the maker.
