Hello out there. I'm a new owner of a used discovery and am experiencing problems with the automatic transmission. As I was driving it home I noticed that the transmission cooler line was seriously leaking. I babied it for the rest of the journey (about 400km), adding dextron III when needed. When I arrived home I yarded off the leaking line and replaced with a new one. Now the problem is I cannot shift the transmission into drive. The reverse gear works great. Some facts: 1. I cannot shift the transfer case into 4 low or high (does the reverse work while the transfer case is in neutral?) 2.The transmission worked great when I shut the engine off and when I moved the vehicle the next day(prior to the line removal). 3.There was and still is no unusual noises, vibrations or smells. 4.I left the line off for two days while awaiting for parts. 5.I'm in a remote area far away from any Land Rover dealerships, so any would be great to use with the local mechanics. I hope theres some helpful advice out there (and that I didn't ruin the transmission). Thanking everyone in advance.

Seeing two things here so one thing at a time. The transfer box will not engage lo or hi unless the vehicle is moving ever so slightly and the auto box in neutral, engine running. Are you in Hi/lo or neutral on the transfer box?

I'm guessing that you have the t-case in neutral. Put the transmission in neutral and apply the parking brake. Also, push in your brake pedal. Then rev up the engine to about 1500 rpm's. Give or take a few. While doing that shift your case into high. It should go in. This is considered the normal method by LR. Hope this helps! |

Another thought, if you had to replace your top line then check your linkage. It's a real tight spot in the tunnel to disconnet the line so you may have bent the linkage. |
