I've been writing for a bit under another thread "overheating while standing still" on overheating probs... After just happening again, I heard hissing noise from expansion tank cap.

1) the cap doesn't screw all the way down the throat of the opening, with ~3 threads exposed. Is this correct?
2) How much pressure is "too much" being generated while driving? It seems I may be loosing coolant from this and air/vapor is causing an overheat. Once I release the pressure when removing cap, put back on and start up, the temp gauge stays just under 9:00 position under heavy revving.

I am so baffled, I am about to bust a nugget!

Will,

Still sorting out my own problems on the other thread too, but...

The expansion tank cap should seal the expansion tank. The cap I have seems to have some sort of pressure release mechanism to it, to release superheated vapours.

Can't recall if there are any threads exposed when mine is screwed down, but then again I just installed an OEM expansion tank so it might be different than "Genuine".

My suggestion here would be to measure the inside depth of the cap, and the outside deapth of the nossle on the tank. Maybe just mark it with the cap on, then measure the depth ot the cap with a stiff wire, and compare that to where the threads show on the expansion tank.

Hope you have better luck than me in sorting this out.
