when descending a muddy slope, my backend slides out. I have stock tires. Will good offroad tires give me A LOT more control of the terrain? also, what tire pressure is good for preventing rock blowouts but is also fine for on road use? |

Damien, I noticed the same phenomenon on a recent off-road trip where we encountered lots of mud. The stock Wrangler HP tires (18's to make things worse) just packed with mud and created slicks. Shortly after the trip, I purchased a set of Goodyear Wrangler MT/Rs and mounted them to 16" wheels. It makes all the difference in the world. Tire pressure is subjective. It depends on your tires and the terrain you'll be encountering. On this particular trip, some of the MT equipped rigs were airing down to 20 psi for the muddy sections. They re-aired up before going back on-road. Running stock tires, I ran 28 psi all-around. Your mileage may vary. -Eugene |

Didn't East Coast Rover do that to some of theres? You could e-mail them if i am right. And even mud tires if they fill um with mud can get no traction, i had the problem and thats why I have gotten stuck before. And if i air down, to 20 it seemed to work. This is what it looks like aired down: http://www.discoweb.org/chrismarcel/index.htm |
