What should a financially challenged Disco owner avoid purchasing used? I'm OK with used non-mech stuff, but what about suspension, jack, and winch?

personally i would be OK with used OME or the like springs that are low mileage. not sure about shocks though. unless you know the person or trust them then i would be a little hesitant about buying used shocks. and that really goes for many things......winches, etc. i mean normally i would not want to buy items from people that i do not know, but would be willing to do so from most people on this board. not that i really 'know' these people either, but for the most part trust them. at least the people i keep in contact with. (and many others too!)
but of course stuff like bumpers and body parts should not be too much of an issue.
i mean Ron should chime in here anytime. he is the king of the CB (cheap bastard) way. :) being resourceful can be rewarding, but as always buyer beware.

Oh well since my name was mentioned.

The stock jack or a highlift?

I actually have bought a "used" stock jack. it works fine but I would say have the person test it. the reason being is that some never worked.

As long it is not rusted a hilift is ok used just shipping will kill the deal.

No reason that used springs would be bad. If you can find some that are about a year old you are good to go as they have settled so the ride and ride height will be what they are supposed to be.

Some shocks have a lifetime warantee so if you can get a reciept more power to you. As long as they test ok (and are not woodheads) should be no big deal.

The key thing with buying used is to know how to tell if it is bad. That way when you get it if it is fragged you can ask for your money back.

There is very little i would not consider buying used but as garret says I am a CB. The other thing is if you buy it used and you don't like it, it is still used and you won't lose much on it as far as reselling.

Winches are tricky and you have to know how to check them. But used usually means a pretty good discount so maybe it is worth it maybe not.
