Well I spent most of the day yesterday diagnosing and getting parts for my D1 when it decided to overheat in the 95+ degree weather here in Salem, Or. Had the AC going full speed and idling through traffic when the AC turned hot and steam started billowing from the hood! It took about 1 minute to get to a place where I could pull off and turn the engine off.

A little hole blew its way through the short hose behind the water pump and leaked 2 gallons of coolant during that one minute! The temp gauge was above the H so obviously I was worried about warping internal parts.

Thankfully no damage was done. $10 later it was as good as new with a new hose, clamps and coolant. Guess the hose became so soft with the heat that an existing "scratch" on the top of the hose bursted with the pressure from the AC.

So just a warning to you all - replace your cooling hoses before the hot season (or now) so you don't end up stranded or having to replace your block!
