I found this setup on the Rovertym website galleries, but it doesn't seem to be like any of their bumpers. Does anyone know who makes it? I assume you can keep the crush cans for airbag compatibility and the washers (and fog lights with a 2003 model). Here's the photo...

Or does this look like something easy for a shop to custom make?

Thanks,
Jamil

You may want to start off by asking the John (I think) at Rovertym if it is one of his or not.

Isn't that Greg Davis' Disco?

If it is then it's probably homemade. Greg does some incredible work....

Yep, that was my first try at a brush guard/winch mount. It's since been sold to a friend (Aaron Owens-look in his gallery) and has been replaced with a complete bumper assy. Thanks for the compliments, but it was a one-off.

Wow. Great work Greg. Did you find the setup to be strong? What made you decide to replace it? Or would you recommend replacing the whole bumper? I assume you work for or own a shop...do you make custom bumpers for people?

The disco will be my daily driver so I would like to keep the crush cans, washers, and fog lights add a winch all without compromising the approach angle. I will of course trim the bumper down as much as possible, but I think this design does all that nicely.

hey jamil,

here is a winch mount that i found in a tech article a while back...i don't think tucking the winch so low and so far back is the best solution, but it will allow you to solidly mount a winch, modify your existing bumper, keep your lights, airbag cans, washers, and mostly stock look.

Not to hijack anything... with the Disco having such a crappy departure angle, is the approach angle that important?

I don't care for that discreet winch mount. Way too low. And I like to be able to see the winch. I found this place: http://www.oerltd.com/
I am going to talk to them about making a mount like the one in my first post. Keep the sides of the bumper, slice off the bottom and get something fabricated for the middle.

Anyone heard of this company?

Jamil

Jamil, the side plates are 1/2" steel, and it's attached to the frame with six 1/2" grade 8 bolts. Yes, it is strong. I decided I wanted something a little more subtle, and wanted to try my hand at making a complete bumper.

Aaron recently ran into a tree with the D/S corner, and it cracked the weld. The only downside to that design is the corners are not supported. But, we'll fix that soon.

Oh, I do this as a hobby, but I do sell DII rear bumpers like the one in my gallery.

Thanks Greg. I like your rear bumper design. I'm going to start in the front though, but from reading the posts here it seems I will soon be replacing the rear too.
