I was disconnecting the OBDI read out under the passenger seat to discover that my O2 sensor is bad (reall....and they only have 135K miles on them). I also disconnected the serial cable that goes into the ECM (or ECU) UNDER the passenger seat while the ignition was on. Now the bastard won't started. It fired right up after I disconnected the ODBI readout and attempted to clear the O2 sensor failure code (code 45). It wouldn't clear, so i tried disconnecting the plug that goes into the black box mounted under the passenger seat, while the ignition was on. I plugged it back in while the ignition was on. Now the engine turns over fine, but won't fire.

Original fuel pump, but that shouldn't be the problem.

Any idea on how to rectify this issue without bending over for the dealer. I am leaving in a week on a 10,000 mile trek.

First of all the easiest way to clear the check eng. light is by pulling the 20amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. It is located behind the battery. the 20amp fuse is labled as the fuel injection fuse. just look on the inside of the lid. and remove this fuse with the key off for about 20 seconds or so then reinstall. As for the no start I need a better description of the black box? you can e-mail me at [email protected] for a quicker responce.

Check for spark @ the wire plug ends...?
Apart from that, not much help-kinda tough.
Dealer diagnostics?

I wonder if you didn't fry the ECU by hooking it up while energized.

Most sophisticated electronics are sensitive to their power up and power down sequence.

I would hook everything back up and maybe disconnect the battery for a while-five minutes or so, maybe. Reattach battery cables and try it again.

Peace,
Paul

Hey Moose,

Were you looking for a fuel pump today?

Disconnect one 02 sensor (with battery unplugged). Then reconnect the battery and see if it runs. Ideally you will want to swap in a known good ECU if it does not run in open loop (ie sensor unplugged). Also do the obvious (check fuses etc)

I have some other ideas but I will not be at work until Monday night to ask people who would know for sure. email me if you want my number at home.
