Hi there, I recently acquired a used DII with 56,000 kilometers on it. I have noticed that when the truck is under load (going up hills, or cruising at speed on the highway)there is a low and constant knocking sound (that's drowned out when you have the radio or heater on) that seems to be coming from the engine. It is not an exhaust leak, had that checked out, and I have cleaned the injectors and run premium gas. The LR dealership states that this noise is resonance from the engine/pistons, and that this is normal. Does anyone have or has had a similar noise. Is this a characteristic of the aluminium block engine. I am concerned about the noise if it is not normal, because I am planning a major road trip. Any information is greatly appreciated. A fellow Landy. |

are you using top rated gasoline in it? Sound like it's pinging (detonating) which is not normal, but it is damn sure capable of destroying a motor. -P |

PerroneFord, The highest octane gasoline in my area is 91 octane, and that is what i am using. I am not sure as to what type of gas the previous owners used. Could it be a problem with the spark plugs? |

Derek, Would I have to take the truck in to the dealership to find out if the timing was set right? |
