Hard starting just cropped up on my 95 Disco. It appears to be fuel related. I just replaced the fuel filter this morning and although it needed it, that didn't cure the problem. When the ignition is turned on, the fuel pump engergizes (hear it) and pressurizes the fuel rail, until a relay kicks out (protection against non start condition). I think when the car is parked and the ignition is turned off, the fuel pressure bleeds to zero. Therefore, when I get in to start the car, the fuel pump timed relay does not provide adequate time to get the fuel rail re-pressurized and "no start". If I switch the ignition on and off a few cycles through the fuel pump timed relay, the system becomes pressurized and the car starts. I did remove the fuel pump assembly to verify the pump function and actually disconnected the pump riser hose to the tank fitting (little clamp). Perhaps I did not get this clamp tight enough on reassembly and my pressure is bleeding from this fitting in the tank. I will check this later today. Otherwise, I'm not sure why the system is depressurizing when parked. Or if that is normal and some other circuit is not functioning properly. Any suggestions?? |
