I'm about to go up and look at a 1992 Range Rover County Classic. Any particular problem areas to look out for? I have a 73' SIII 88" now, and that thing is a world away from a RR. Any and all help would be appreciated, Michael Farr F-Troop The Citadel C/O 2000 |

They are robust, like your series, but benefit from attention. Liken it to a mistress. Miles and # owners, owner maint history, are all important. A well maintained 120K mi is better than a neglected 75K mi. Takes a lot to get caught up. Ask me how I know.. Be prepared for $1200-2000 in first year if you have to take it to dealer or independant shop for care. Allow $900-1000 if you do it yerself. INVEST in the full shop service manuals, NOT Haynes. Check oil color and transmission color as indicators of care/attention. Brake rotor warping will be felt thru the brake pedal, upon application. AC: check that it works. Elec stuff is typical Brit engrg... If you're handy and alert, they can be fabulous. Big ?? is :why is it for sale ? Find out the real reason; oh, also, CATS are expensive- negotiate the cost as a lever; not always frighteningly $$$ to replace. You are assuming alota risk, but they are great vehicles! |

Doug hit most of the high points, but I disagree that cats are expensive. I paid $60 each for mine. Much of the cost of parts is dependent on where you buy. Quite similar to the Series trucks. -P |
