Alright, I'm very new to Land Rovers and I have a number of questions (some I've already asked) related to whether I am experiencing a potential problem, or just another Land Rover quirk or 'fact of life.' I was wondering if any number of you veterans of Land Rovers and this tech board could compile a technical FAQ to address those facts of life of Land Rover ownership, as well as frequent problems, diagnoses, and solutions. For example, the tranny heat question has been asked a couple of times. While we are not stupid people, some of us have never driven vehicles as heavy as these and therefore wouldn't expect this. Also, I'm not a novice to automotive work from brakes to suspension, engine building to CV' s and trannys, but my experience is limited to cars I have owned, and I have never owned a vehicle with two live axles...I bet many others have not, either. So other FAQ's regarding sources of noise, what effects steering besides the steering box and tie rods (e.g. PANHARD ROD), and other tidbits that will better inform us novices before we take our Rover to the dealer only to let their service department have their way with us. Otherwise, from other auto/tech boards I've been on, you guys don't immediately post, "do a search," when repeated questions pop up; that's nice, especially for keeping newbies around. If this sounds like a good idea, speak up. I'm even willing to compile the FAQ's if someone else can tag it for HTML and put it somewhere on the site. |

Sounds like a good idea. You might take a look over at the d-90.com. They do have a Technical FAQ and since our trucks are so similar, most of the things you find there will be directly applicable to your truck. -P |

Thanks! I'll definitely do that. Also, if any of you veterans have advice and experience with Rover quirks, e-mail me!!! |

I'm an x-newbie...I think. You have a good idea (FAQ) as there is a ton-o-info out there, just not all in one place. I think you'll find that between the web sites (d90, EE, dweb, disco2.com, etc.) and the boards, you'll just absorb the info or find the answer. Also, you'll begin to note the trends with the MY vehicles. For example, my 99 has been brilliant, yet you hear some bad stories about the 2000 MY. If your rig is running good, just relax and take care of it, they really like to be stroked. Also, I would highly recommend a complete shop manual. I can't remember who pointed me that direction, but it's been enlightening just reading through the thing. |

There is a FAQ in the tech section. |
