Hey guys, hope all is fine and dandy...

I've been off for a while, coz I've been traveling and working in a new country. I'll be getting a Disco here is Saudi Arabia as well :) so that I do not piss off the Gods of the Green...

Anyways, I would like to know what is the difference between these two fridges? and which one you recommend.

Cheers
Nadim

Nadim,
I think the word is that they are the same unit, but with a different case. Check with Ho.

The ARB fridges are merely a private label Engel fridge. The Engel and ARB fridges can be identical, depending on the model year of of the respective fridges.

The Engel fridges and the latest ARB fridges are identical in every way except color. Here is a pic of the latest ARB fridges: http://www.arb.com.au/arb_freezer_fridges.htm It's hard to tell in the top pic, but if you look carefully, you can see on that 45 fridge that the guy is sitting on has a cartouche on it below the handle for the "ENGEL" label like so: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/engel/DCP_0303.jpg

As the caption states, these latest ARB models are not yet available in the USA. The ARB fridges currently available in the USA are the older models with the thinner lids and older swingmotors like so:

http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=1018&occlass=ARBFZ&cat=ACC

These ARB units draw 3.1 amps at freeze versus 2.5 for the Engel units. In addition to drawing more amps when running, the older ARB units also cycle more frequently than the Engels because of the thinner lids and resulting lesser insulation.

I just brought my new Engel with me on last weeks trip out west. On the third day, coming out of the Hole in the Rock trail, I was still pulling ice cold drinks out , while everyone elses ice had melted. I kept it running overnight, and it did not drain my battery once. (I do have a yellow top, though)
Anyway, the Engel was one of the best investments I have ever made, I am never going back to using ice again.

Kyle...

NO, the Disco is in Great Shape...Actually, much better than before as I have done some serious mods after the "Pariscope Down" immitation...

The thing is that I am in a different country that has some new laws as far as cars are concerned, and my plan to bring it along went down the drain. So, the logical thing to do was to keep it down in Lebanon, and get another one here ;)

Cheers and thx for the replies...
