Walk out to feed the dog this morning and noticed this 3' wide puddle under the front passenger side of the Disco. Further investigation points almost certainly to the washer fluid reservoir. Nearly drained the whole thing overnight.

I rarely, if ever, use the washer fluid so it's no big deal so long as it's emptying doesn't effect anything else. Anyone have experience removing and refitting this thing?

Not long ago I noticed that my rear washer didn't work, although you could hear the pump running when activated. I found out that there's a valve next to the reservoir in line with the rear feed tube that is supposed to prevent all the fluid from draining back into the tank when idle. In my case this valve is leaking (haven't gone to the dealer yet to get a replacement) and allowed 2/3 of the tank to empty. I'd look there first, and I believe that there is a similar valve for the front windscreen washers. Probably worth a look too (they should be right next to each other). BTW, I had a heck of a time getting the reservoir loose as the two screws and nuts that secure the bottom of the tank to the fenderwell were rusted together. Ended up taking a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and cutting the screws. Use stainless steel for replacements!

Yep - those little check valves go bad and piss washer fluid all ofer the place. I replaced mine in a pinch with an aquarium air check valve and since it has worked for two years, have never replaced it with the real thing! LOL

I repaired it, opening it with a sharp knife and replacing the rubber disc with a new one, cut from washing-up gloves from my wife. Third world solution :)
I close it again with a click.

Ron,

Mine has a crack in the tank itself, I think it came that way from the dealer. This only allows it to be filled a quarter tank. Since I don't use the stuff very often I've never gotten around to fixing it. The dealership didn't fix such things under the "Certified" warranty, and the cost was too much. See you at Telico!

Try repairing the crack with a fiberglass repair kit. That resin turns to steel in a day.
