I have had no other problems with my truck until today. I was at accelerating from 0mph to 30mph when i got to 30mph the car went into neutral, I was still in drive and if i gave it gas it just reved up. I pulled off the road into a field and got out and checked everything out. I didnt see any leaks (except for the engine) I've checked the transmission fluid and it's all ok. I got back in my truck and started it up and it wouldnt engage into drive. I could only put the truck into R and N when i shifted into D321 it was like it was in N. I ended up backing all the way home.. it was like a half mile. I have no clue what is wrong. Could I have to get my Transmission rebuilt? Any input would be greatly appreciated. thanks |

Was the truck cold when this happened? if so let it warm up This sounds like a stuck governor valve... I am hopeful that a change in fluid and filter will help, but it might take a few of days for all the loose crud to get picked up during which time it will act up for moments when cold. If that fails have the govenor pulled and cleaned. If the filter is very dirty its a sign that things are on a downward path....Every time the fluid is changed (every 15k plus filter at 30) I either momentarily get stuck in neutral when cold or in second for a couple of days then it clears within moments. Very scary at first. But is now part of the character of my truck..... Good luck |

Can you explain to me what the governor does for a transmission? My Disco has very rough shift, during low speed, when it is warm. Do you think it is because of the governor? Thanks |

Hello, just an idea: kickdowncable broken. I would check that, because its easily done. It starts in the engine bay (rearleft quater of engine) and ends in the autobox. Let someone move the accelerator pedal and watch the cable moving. |

The governor contains valves that controls the flow of fluid and therefore gearing. |

The truck wasn't cold when this happened. It was actually quite warm outside and I had just drove about 10 miles. I think I am going to take it in to the dealer and have them look at it. I will check the kickdown cable. Thanks for the help. |

The Governor valve or the TP cable wont give that symptom. A loss of forward movement just like that would mean something broken all together. Its strange that you have reverse and no manual low though.... Kyle |
