I hope no one was tailgating you! Haven't heard of that in a Disco before, although I and one other guy I know of have had this happen in a Studebaker Avanti at speed with the windows rolled down. Did you have any leaks around the rear window before it blew out? Can you tell from the epoxy/glue left on the Rover if it happened all at once or if it was a gradual(sp?) thing? |

it happens alot more than you think. in the course of my job i have taken reports from citizens who complained about someone breaking the windows out of their cars (it seems to happen alot to vehicles with large glass area ie. minivans, suvs.) many years ago i talked to my insurance guy and he told me its caused more by design than acts of a scumbag. weather seems to play a role but to what extent i cant be sure, it seems that extreme cold and heat causes the windows to felx as the interior of the car breathes. sometimes the glass just doesnt want to breathe along with the car and the results is a shattered glass. as niall stated and i will add to it.... life happens and its NOT A LAND ROVER THING! mike w |

Actually it is not uncommon for Discoverys. WHile I was living in Vermont I met several owners who told me ratherasked me first if I ever ha this occur to me. No I have not but after questionin the dealer in Burlington VT, who I do not recommend!!!! They toldme it happens, especially to D1s 94-95. Something changes in the glass or the door bends just a little or the glass moves ad bang. One guy told me it happened to him twce with one of his D1., he has 2. I hav total faith but that wuld piss me off big time too. |

I had it happen to the drivers side window in my 84 Mustang a few years ago. Hot day, nobody around, car was parked and the window shattered all by it self. |

Windows can handle expansion or contraction reasonably well, however, if you "torque" them out of their natural plain (kind of like a 'twist') they explode. Probably the door was expanding or contracting at different rates at various points around the window and 'boom'. I've had this happen to two cars of mine, just fire up the shop vac and start sucking up glass! |
