I'm planning on doing a dual battery setup in my '99 D1. Many posts talk about the space in front of the airbox on the right of the engine front. How exactly does one remove the air trumpet and create space here? Could someone direct me on how to do this correctly and not totally screw up everything. Do you need to cut a hole someplace else? Do you even need the air trumpet at all? Need help please-- |

Cliff, Remove the bottle jack and wheel stop first, remove the mounting bracket for the jack. Once the jack is out of the way, just grab the horn on the air box and wiggle it around a bit and pull on it. The horn will slide out without any cutting, bashing or hammering. It actually pops out really easy. Now you have space for the second battery. I fit an optima yellow top in just fine. One other thing, you will probebly need to bend the power steering fluid reservoir to the side just a little so it clears the new battery. It doesn't need to be relocated, just pushed to the side a little. Good luck with your project, Dave |

Thanks so much-- So I don't need to refashion the air horn elsewhere? In otherwords the air box will function just fine without it I guess. |
