Best and CB in the same sentence? That's an oxymoron! No such thing as a good CB.

Best CB radio?

Try Galaxy:

http://www.galaxyradios.com/cb/

They are very well respected by the 11m groups out there. The Uniden Grant is also another top choice. I'd suggest using a properly tuned steel whip for best results. You will also want to have the radio gone over by a pro, the antenna tuned professionally, and you may want a linear amplifier for range boosting.

As for Rocksliders, I think theRoverTym and Rockware products are the best out there or at least the best i've seen commercially.

You're own your own for the ARB.

I would consider getting a handheld cobra(all in the mic, not the portable ones) for about 120 at 4x4connection.com and a firestick antenna. I was considering getting a 25 watt export radio for a while but there's really no need for those unless everyone in your group has one. Even though the sound is great, others cannot communicate with you easily unless they too run modified CB's and every time you key up you will drown out everyone else near you and for miles around. This can be annoying as hell, especially in large groups.

The best CB made (in my opinion) is a Galaxy. Hands Down. Can you afford it? If so, thats the ticket.

I just picked up the handheld/remote Cobra Al is talking about at a Petro off I80 in PA for $99. I have said it before, and I'll say it again, the best prices and selection on CB equipment is at truck stops, for obvious reasons.

Check out Discount Rovers (www.discountrovers.com) for the best price on ARB bumpers. Nathan's a pretty good guy to deal with. A second choice would be Expedition Exchange (www.expeditionexchange.com). They are pretty competitive on the ARB products too.

Thanks,
Mike B.

Perrone

Do you know a couple of good distributors for the Galaxy?

Galaxy are sold by Petro, Pilot, Flying J, Bosselman, TA, Sapps Brothers, Iowa80, all located conveniently at an Interstate near you... :) But really, a CB is a CB is a CB. They all put out 4 watts, a good antenna setup is more important. Talk to the CB guy at a truck stop about a good setup.

A CB is a CB? And a radio is a radio, and a truck is a truck. I do agree that a good antenna setup is critical for best performance.

No Axel, a CB is not a CB. Have you seen pictures of the Galaxy with its big ol' meter and lit numeric character frequency to the hundreths to the right of the decimal place??

No. The cool factor alone sets it apart.

I want one.

But I agree that the antenna set-up is by far the most important (and overlooked) item.

The Galaxy is cool, no doubt about it. Lots of buttons, too. But it's still an am radio putting out 4 watts, and it don't come in yellow. I have seen a gold plated one, though. I guess that's close enough....... :)

The big ole meter on the galaxy doesnt make it transmit or receive any better than a CB with a couple of LED for signal stregnth.

If your going to bounce it around, get a nice mid range radio and figure your going to replace it every year or so. Might want to get one with Weather receive.

The galaxy is not a CB,its a ten meter ham radio which can be modified to also use as a CB.puts out more than 4watts.
I saw two monts ago a CB which also features a bvuilt in frequency counter.
I think was new to the market and if I remember corect is made by Galaxy.
Cobras are the most widely and popular used cbs in the market and great for what are designed for.

Axtually, the Galaxy DX 959 and DX949 are vehicle mounted CB's, while the DX 2547 is a CB base station. The rest of their product line are ten meter ham radios, however.

Damn, Tonight I bought the Cobra 75 WXST. If only I had known I could have got a big chrome box with an analog meter that reads down to the 100ths.
