Hi, I need to adjust the handbrake on my 1993 Discovery, its the Series 1 disco, the Handbreak operates on the rear of the transmission. Any advice on how and were I adjust it would be great. Cheers Quin |

It adjusts from inside the cab. Remove the panel with the window switches from the console (plastic cover is a friction fit and pries off, then 4 screws to remove the panel holding the switches). There's a thumbwheel around the brake cable below the parking brake lever. It's a pain to reach! With the lever in the "released" position, rotate the thumbwheel until the brake engages on the third click of the ratchet. This assumes that the shoes are properly adjusted beneeath the truck - it was enough to resume function on ours. Otherwise, there is an adjuster on the front side, bottom of the brake housing. Rotate clockwise until shoes are fully expanded, then back off until drum is free to rotate, then adjust thumbwheel for third click. John |

'93s have a rod-actuated parking brake mechanism. I think, but I'm not sure, the only way to adjust it is to tighten the adjuster bolt on the back flange of the parking brake drum. Turn it until the shoes are pressed firmly against the drum, then back-off the bolt until the drum turns freely. |
