I don't have an aftermarket bumper
I saw some trailer hitch recovery points at rovers north and atlantic british
50 buks or so
would it be possible to get a trailer hitch with a 6,000 lb rating and put a D ring into the hole where the ball hitch goes
it would be the same as what you buy off those websites but cheaper

would it suck or does it sound like a good idea

And when you attach a rope or strap to it and pull, the rope or strap is going to get crushed beneath the hitch reciever right?

Blake,

I'm not sure I understand. You have the money to fit NATO wheels, OME suspension, new tires, etc., but you can't afford a proper rear recovery point that costs $50 or so?

Maybe he doesn't plan on getting stuck with all those mods!

yes blake it will work fine

BUT I am warning you now that if you use a tow ball on it to tow you have to tighten the nut to an extremely high torque level so don't go thinking you can swap back and forth easily

If you want to save money, just use the hitch pin in the receiver hit and use the pin to secure one end of the tow strap/rope. It's cheaper than the ball hitch thing and doesn't make your truck look like a hunk of shit. The hitch pin in the receiver hitch is actually a very elegant set up.

50 bucks is too much. I got mine (Warn) for 36 at Six State Distributors...

Blake,

Here are some pics of the hitch pin and receiver hitch being used as a rear recovery point:

If you're into the CB thing, I think this is both cheaper and much more elegant than the ball mount idea. Only danger here is that you can cut your strap on the edge of the receiver receptable. Use a strap with leather or cordura reinforcements on the loops or you could end up with this:
