Dear members of this list, I am about to invest in new springs, shocks and steering damper for my 1996 Disco Tdi. I will also add polybushes to this list. I have been talking to FamousFour which offers heavy duty springs and Bilstein heavy duty shocks. Anyone with experiance of this setup in this list? Opinions would be most appreciated! TIA Peter |

Peter! I can recommend FFs springs, rears are doublerated, giving soft ride - and then pretty stiff when there's some hammering. As to shockers, I bought Marilyn Monroes from FF - the Adventurers. These also have some kind of blowby valve, giving initial softness, stiffening under load. Really good. I got the Bilstein steering damper - extremely expensive, but very good. The blue polys also comfortable & good. Be advised you might not be able to fit the standard polys onto the new Monroe shockers - and Polybush Co. didn't know and didn't have any option, so I used the rubbers coming with the shockerskit. Ride is firm, but not harsh. Good cornering, not too much pitch and roll - the rolling that's left in the vehicle when cornering, feels very controlled. but it won't feel go-cart-ish, like the DII... Take a look at Ottos homepage: http://home.halden.net/discovery If you want any advise on Disco suspension, Andrew Varrall at Famous Four's an expert! BTW: I got the normal ride height springs, which is actually a bit shorter than the OEM-ones, but as they're stiffer, you don't loose anything when vehicles loaded. You might want to purchase the +1" springs to allow fitting of larger tyres for offroad clearance. This will make you lose about what you gain from fitting HD-springs... Roverly Yours, Frode |
