G'day all,

I live in Australia and im building a D90 on a shorterned Range Rover chassis, and I am using a 300tdi, R380 and LT230 out of a 1996 discovery.

I am using Range Rover diff assemblies with Discovery diff centres but I am trying to decided what diff ratio to run. I will be running 35x12.5 BFGoodrich M/T's. From what I know 4.1 will make the gearing like standard. What rev's does the 300tdi do on the freeway doing 110kph (not sure what that is in miles, 63mph ?) and what would 4.3's take it to? I mean the off road advantage would be great, but I still need on road cruise speed

Your advice would be much appreciated

Hmmmm.........

I can' speak to the 300Tdi, but I would suggest the 4.1 over the 4.3 if you want to run that big of a tire on the highway, FWIW...

All else the same, the 4.1 should be a tad stronger than the 4.3...

I dunno by experience w/ your given setup, tho'.... hopefully someone will pitch in w/ better info...

:)

Where are you getting your 4.3 gears from?

David,

At 110 kph you'll be doing about 2800 rpm in a tdi with stock tyres.

Stock diff gearing if 3.54
Talk to Maxidrive or Jack Macnamara about different crown wheel and pinions.

You can get 4.1's from 4 wheel drives in Melbourne but these are for converting series vehicles.

I assume you ugrading your axles to cope with the 35's

I would get the 4.3. I have 4.1 and a true 35" tall tire. Yes the gearing runs stock now, but with the weight and wind resistance of being taller and heavier I wish I had 4.3. The only down side is if you have any drive line vibrations now, spinning everything faster will only make things worse.

G'day kent,

Why do you wish you had 4.3's? like what would the advantage be onroad ?
