Hi everyone,

i have the opportunity to get a set of 235/85R16 GoodYear Wrangler MT.

Are there some people here with some experience with these tires offroad ?

Sure the MT/R should be really better... but here it is sometime difficult to get some products. And don't ask me why.

Anyway, how do the wrangler MT perform ?
Traction ?
Durability ?

Thank you very much for any feedback.

Best regards to all.

Erik,

I had a set on my Chevy pick-up a couple of years ago. I loved them, they were great in the snow and mud. I only thing I didn't like was the fact they were uni-dirctional tires. I had 40,000 miles on them when i sale the truck and never had a problem with them.

I had them on my Scout about 3 years ago and liked them a lot. They were the best tire in snow that I have ever owned. But 40K miles - I don't think I even got close to that! When driving that Scout I could watch the gas gauge needle go down and the fread depth diminish with every mile. The hot summer asphalt chewed through those tires in a big hurry.

And DUH - noisy.

Ron, Anonymous and Jarrod,

thank you very much for your feedback.
Seems to be a great tire in snow... but that is the only thing in surface we don't have here :-)

But mud... yeah !

Thank you again.

Regards.

Erik.

I used to work for goodyear, and would never recommend their MT's. However, that changed when the MT-Rs came out. I put them on my Rangie, 235-85's and they performed very well in moab. Aired down the side lugs were almost too grippy in sand ruts, as they kept wanting to climb out. I pinched the sidewall to the extreme at 10psi without a mark. I have yet to try them in mud, more rocks than anything else here in Denver. Plus they are quiet on the highway for a MT.

Hey John - I wonder if this is a "small world moment"? My brother is a manager for Goodyear (Kirby Leonard) and that is how I got the tires. Surprised you didn't like them though - I thought they were a great tire for wheelin, just not much for the highway. And I agree that the MTR is much improved.

I have a set of MTs on my DI. Wear is average, wet traction is pretty close to poor. Snow/ice is OK, not as good as a Scorpion. In mud, they hook up pretty well. They are noisy, but thats what yah get with a mud tire.

Hi everyone,

I agree the MT/R would be a really better choice, but I just called the GoodYear representative for my country, and he told me he only has MT and not MT/R, because they were imported from the US and very expensive.

So all he can offer is wrangler MT for US $150 each.

Don't tell me to have a look at BFG MT, they are sold here at US $ 215 !!

So, I am still wondering if I should go for the MT ?

John, why won't you recommend the MT ? What is the reason ?

Thank you all.

Regards.
