Bill, My guess is that your rig needs a new diff-lock indicator switch... part # prc2911.... Can you tell if it's actually locked or not? If so, the light just isn't getting signal from the switch... fwiw- Craig |

This does not apply to your truck, Bill, but regarding this topic, couldn't help but add something here ... News flash: (???) guess what, all? ... Apparently on the newer D2's, say 2001 on (??) the light doesn't work period. I know. I drove with my center diff locked almost from the get go (i.e. after the first 700 miles or so - a long painful story, when they replaced my T case, the mechanic didn't know they ship 'em locked, and failed to unlock it ... hey, I thought my ETC really did kick giant butt ... can't get into it right now, or I will ). Long ugly story short, the dealership is still scratching their head ... said that they tested all of the newer models they had, and they don't seem to work ... I was told that when they inquired to LRNA, they were told something to the effect of "Yeah, so what? They're not supposed to be locked." Isn't that special? ... LOL,,,, Well, at least you're not in my situation. Best wishes, Kim '01 D2 |

Do the series II's even have a locking center differential? I thought they did away with it and put the ETC on instead. |

Bill, Mine had the same problem when I got it. Rattling the shift lever back and forth between lock and unlock a few times got it working again. No problem since. It seems the soccer mom who had owned mine previously never needed to lock it in at the mall. Switch was just stuck. Steve 98 Disco also |

John, They did away with the locking center diff (in that it is more easily accessible to modify) in the very late 2001's and the new 2002's. Mine is more easily lockable with some modifications. You can research the archives on CDL right here ... (there is also a load of info on it on the Yahoo disco2owners group). Kim |

Hey Bill, not trying to be a smart ass, but couldn't tell from your post. Are just throwing the shifter forward into low? Or are you throwing it left then forward into low? In order to lock the cdl, need to shift to the left, then work with the high/low range on that side. You can do high/low being unlocked as well. Not sure mechanically or electrically what can be wrong if you are doing it all right. |
