I'm jealous!! I wish one of my dogs would take over the driving occassionally! As soon as I get someone to reduce photo to required size for upload, I will try to post one of mine.

That's a great Pic Peter. I can't remember who, Roverine perhaps; but someone last year posted a cool Pic of their Boxer sitting up right in the Drivers seat.

Jamie, there's a dog in that mess? :-)

Well, yes...

That photo illustrates what was and still remains one of my biggest problems...

...at the end of my first off roading weekend, I had to throw everything out on the ground in order to get it all the stuff back inside again...

...I can't seem to get myself and what I need to carry organized?? Even more problematic, my cargo area still has way too much stuff in it. I did take out most of the useless stuff, but only replaced it with more useless stuff?

For sure, none of the stuff is what I REALLY need on the trail (even though I "think" I do need everything in there)...

...so, here I am attempting to prepare for long trip AND CAMPING. With the exception of emergency gear, have not even started on the other gear that I really DO need to carry.

I also seem to be doing things backwards and learning the hard way...

Here is another photo of the same trip, and the first time I got stuck in the mud. I am the dumb bunny white disco on the right that discovered that perhaps it was not the "best idea" to have recovery strap and shackles buried UNDER all the other "stuff" in my cargo area:

Jamie - ever think about using rubber/plastic containers to hold your stuff? It would be a lot neater and easier to organize.

I did not even know that there were stickers until last night when I ventured into a long thread in another area. Cool! I always need more stickers!! I am ordering them for sure!!

And oh yeh, in that same thread (I think) there was website listed to go and remove your drivers license, photo, and personal info from the site since it was readily accessable to anyone on the web. That was one of the first things I did today. I would highly recommend that anyone who has not removed their license and personal info from that sight that they go do it asap.

Are pelican cases lightweight?

Thanks, Jamie

Jamie....that mess is TOOOOO funny. I've got 4 kids and when I first started wheeling I carried so much stuff I had it stuffed in every nook and cranny I could find.

Now I try to carry as little as possible and what I carry changes before every trip.

I use catagories like:
emergency survival...stuff to build a fire, water, and a little bit of food (2 mre)

fluids, jumper cables, shop manual ect.(gear I am not likely to use but would be SOL without it if I have a proble)

Recovery gear, I always keep this as accessable as possible because I am likely to need it.

Basic tools, but I only cary the tools that I know I would need for a feild repair. Mostly driveline stuff. I try to anticipate what is the most likely to break and I carry enough for a short term repair that will get me off the trail.

Spare parts...axles 1ft and 1 rear, track rod, drag link, trailing arm...things that are likely to get bent.

I have narrowed my cargo down to 3 boxes and I am always trying to consolidate.

Did you actually GO to that site? It's pretty scary stuff...

I'm driving from Wisconsin to Wyoming and Colorado in about 2 weeks. My cargo will break down pretty much like this:

- Surplus ammo cans for recovery straps and chains, etc.
- Giant black duffel bag for clothes
- Olive duffel for "campsite setup" (tent, tarp, sleeping bags, pillows)
- Olive duffel for "campsite stuff" (stove, coffee pot, LP tanks, camp chairs)
- Rubbermaid tote (I know, I know) for tools.
- Rubbermaid tote for dog food and dog equipment
- Big Cooler for food and refreshments
- Little Cooler for in-car refreshments
- 7-gallon water can in back of truck
- 5-gallon gas can in back of truck
- Hi-Lift in rear of truck by rear door
- Come-along in rear of truck by rear door

Weather permitting the 2 olive duffels go up top on the roof rack; otherwise the coolers and totes. This will allow room for the dog in the back (no rear seats) on his bed...

Gee whiz!

That is a puppy???

It looks you couldn't fit anything else in rover with him along! You might not even need recovery gear anyway - he looks big and strong enough to pull a stuck rover free!!

Great photo!! :-)
