I've been stalling on steep inclines. Could it be my idle speed adjustment?

Mine too. It does it when I've been going down a steep hill(>35 deg). However, after a few min. it idles fine. Not sure what what the problem is any there is. 95 disco 84k miles

Hey all,

I turned my idle adjustment screw open about a 1/4 turn to see if that would aleviate my stalling problem. On steep inclines under heavy load the truck lurches and the rpm slutter between 1,2 and 3k rpm untill it dies. Any ideas?

When the engine is stalling you should check for any possible vacuum leaks (hoses etc which are downstream of the throttle). And you should check the base idle speed, base timing and the stepper motor. A good test for the stepper motor is to turn the A/C on and off, and there should be no significant change in idle rpms.

Now to speculate about why you're stalling on a steep incline: Perhaps there is some dirt or water in your gas tank which is causing no harm until you drive over the side of a cliff, which stirs it into the fuel line.

You may also want to check all the major electrical connection points, which may be corroded or loose. A sudden shift in the weight could cause an electrical failure. Not likely but possible on iffy connections.

Randall,

Where is the stepper motor located? That sounds like it might be the problem.

Brian, look in the tech section. You could clean and reinstall and then see if there is some improvement
